My Freshman Year

I thought that this section of my freshman year was very interesting. It started by talking about how American students and foreign students get confused about what each other means when it comes to talking. American students think that saying how are you is just like saying hi/goodbye and foreign students feel that it is a conversation starter. This is interesting to me because it shows that american students and foriegn students do not communicate enough with each other and also do not really know how to relate to each other. This is something that i feel happens all the time on our campus and also on a lot of other campuses around the country.I feel that People of diffrent nationalities do not really communicate or try to communicate enough as they should and should try to understand and get to know one another more. One point that was made in this story that i think would help fix this problem would be having universities teach each student a foriegn language so they will be able to come accustumed to other nations not just ours.

The Mind At Work

I chose to do chapter 1 of the Mind At Work because both my sister and my mom are both waitresses and both love their job. Being a waitress seems like an easy job on the outside but it is actually a tough job which takes a lot of mental strength and also physical strength. Waitresses are on their feet walking around the whole day while getting little time to break or even sit down.Waitresses are also able to brighten peoples day by being kind and nice and helping the customer out with whatever they need. This reading made many good points when it talked about how important work is and how it gives you a sense of power. Being a waitress gives you a great sense of power because even though you do work for a restaurant you are mostly working for yourself. The amount of money you make matters by how good of a job you are doing and how you treat your customers. A waitress is able to grow many diffrent qualities which include a great memory, a great flow of work ethics, a feeling of being needed by people and also great people skills. These are qualities that will help people throughout their lives not only in their job but also in their everyday lives. Waitresses put a lot of passion into their work and are able to help people out on a daily basis which makes it such a great job.
